‘Tis the season for giving back.

And that can take a lot of forms: Donating money, setting up fundraisers, volunteering your time on weekends or even traveling halfway across the world to help those in need. Whatever the method, the goal is the same — to find a way, big or small, to improve people’s lives and the communities they live in.

Check out these stories of Northwestern Mutual financial advisors who have made giving back a personal goal.

Cindy Arocho was rising up the ranks in an investment banking job when she left it all behind to help orphans and widows in places like Mozambique, Brazil, Sweden and Austria. The mission trips helped her find her true passion for positively impacting people. It’s a goal she strives for every day through her work as a financial advisor too.

Karin Larrave has been passionate about helping people in her native Guatemala for the past 16 years. In fact, this advisor even gets her clients in on the act by having them volunteer on medical mission trips. The work they do improves the lives of women and children living in poverty.

While looking for a cause he, his wife and four kids could get involved with, Royce Zimmerman found a local charity that helps kids get through their cancer treatments. How? By delivering backpacks full of toys to them in the hospital, making their stays a little more bearable. Here’s how Royce makes giving back a family affair.

Brian Eder’s favorite cause hits close to home; his sister had an aneurysm while in college. So he combined his love of golf with his desire to give back and launched a charity tournament to support people recovering from traumatic brain injuries.

Helping women’s and children’s causes is a priority for Brooke McKernan, who spends her time volunteering for charities that range from the Junior League to the Nicklaus Children’s Foundation. Here are the life lessons she learned from her parents that inspired her to get involved with her community.

Social Security is an important part of your financial plan.

Your financial advisor can show you how Social Security will work to reinforce your retirement savings. And they’ll show you how it can help you live the life you want in retirement.
